The art of not posting too much, too often. Just curious. Without pointing at anyone in particular, I’m wondering if there reallty is a line between posting and posting too much. If Stephen Hawking was a member here, and he posted in every GQ tread, I’m pretty sure the board would consider that an honor and we’d all hang on his every word. Others not so much. Sure, evreyone has the right to post whenever and wherever they choose. But sometimes “I shit ma pants” type posts are annoying. Skip them you say? Not so easy when you’re reading a thread and following a discussion and “I shit ma pants” appears between 2 posts discussing something you’re interested in. It can kill the flow. Not on the order of a natural disaster, but unnecessarty and unwelcome. There has to be a balance in everything. Ask yourself, who is the biggest asshole on the board? Why is that person considered an asshole? Probably because they exhibit trollish behavior, that is, behavior that they know pissed off a percentage of the board yet they continue to do it, even when called on it. It’s like they stick their tongue out yell “neener neener, I can do it and you can’t stop me.” So anyway, what is posting too much? ---

I post quite a bit during the day to alleviate boredom at work, but I think I kind of make up for it by not posting at night, on weekends or, for the most part, while on vacations. ---

When I post to debate threads, I think, “how much time and energy will it take to defend the positions I’m taking? Am I willing to make that investment in time and energy?” That helps keep my posting under control in those forums. ---

Many years ago, I was on a new forum where I became the first member to make first one thousand, then two thousand, etc. up to five thousand posts. No one else was even close. My average was between 17 and 20 posts per day. Then I had an epiphany, and slowed way down. Now, I try to post only when I have something to contribute to the conversation, to move things forward (not that I think anything I post should be written in stone and saved). Keeping in mind this is a messageboard, I still think it’s best when people write something worth reading, which can be opinions, facts, recipes, etc. I just dislike what are, in my opinion, pointless posts, like “+1” or “I see what you did there,” or some variation, with nothing else behind it. A reaction like that is fine in conversation, but reading it, to me, is a waste of time. On the other hand, a messageboard is a sort of time waster anyway, so don’t listen to me. It’s just my opinion, anyway. ---
