The Australian Open 2010 Discussion Thread

I assumed it was a joke, although, now I have to admit I don’t get the Thailand thing.

Some tennis skorts actually do have an extra pocket sewn on the outside of the leg of the shorts for the ball. Otherwise, it just gets shoved between the skin and the shorts. I once played with a lady who kept the extra ball in her sports bra. That was a bit odd.

Don’t think too hard about it. Meanwhile, Roddick, Henin and Fernando Gonzalez are all down a set. In fact, Henin is down a set and a break, although that could change in a minute. And Jelena Jankovic lost earlier today.

Henin gets back on serve in the second set. Roddick and Lopez fighting hard for the first game of the third set. Gonzalez is up a break in the second set now.

Arantxa Sanchez Vicario outfits had a clip attached to the waistband of her skirt. It was located on the back of the skirt, basically above the crack of her cute little ass.

Who is this woman playing Henin? Kleybanova? I haven’t heard of her. She looks huge next to Henin. Anyways Henin just broke her to pull even in the 2nd set. Henin looks to be taking control of the match as Kleybanova appears to injured.

Henin wins second set. Roddick and Lopez are fighting vehemently over every point in their third set. Gonzalez catching a beatdown from Korolev who is up 3-1 and now serving to attempt to go up to 4-1.

I wish I could actually watch some tennis right now but alas, my TV died somehow and is only displaying snow.

Kleybanova is yet another member of Yeltsin’s army of Russian female tennis players. No titles of note, ranked as high as 23 last year, made the fourth round at the Australian last year and Wimbledon the year before that.

Henin wins, and Roddick is up two sets to one. Gonzalez is going five. Yanina Wickmayer is also through to the next round after a three-set win. If you haven’t been following at home, Wickmayer (BEL) is in the top 20 in the world and made the semifinals of the US Open, but she’s unseeded in Australia and had to qualify for this tournament: after the Open, she missed a drug test and failed to tell testers where she was, which resulted in an automatic six month suspension. (Xavier Malisse was also suspended at that time, for the same reason.) “Wicky” managed to get the suspension overturned, which made her eligible for Australia, but it was overturned so late she had to go through qualifying.

She’s about to win her match, and if she seals the deal, she’ll get Henin. She lost to Clijsters in New York. She really needs to stop running into rival unseeded Belgians just out of retirement.

Wow - Petrova!!! She just bludgened Clijisters!

Fashion note - is Petrova’s outfit meant to look like that or has she somehow tied it up on one side?

I know this isn’t the popular view, but I am ready for Justine to go back into retirement. I do admire her style of play. She is a nice counter to the mindless power game. However, I lost what little respect I had for her after she quit the AO final against Mauresmo.

Hopefully “Wicky” will kick her butt and she will go back into retirement!

You’re tired of her after two tournaments? I’ll say this: between that default and the foot fault thing with Serena, I don’t think nearly as much of her as I used to. But there’s no question she’s a great player, and if she’s moved to a point where she enjoys playing tennis again it’s good for everybody.

I was tired of her before she retired the first time. I was kind of hoping she would actually retire and mean it. Maybe she will follow in Hingis’ footsteps.

If Henin retires again soon, she better do it after kicking the Williams’ asses so hard that they retire first. I want those classless bitches gone so badly, Serena moreso but both ideally.

I’m still hoping you’ll explain your problem with Venus one of these days, Covered_in_Bees!.

Dislike by association. :stuck_out_tongue:

More relevantly, I think we can go ahead and call Baghdatis done.

Yeah, he’s got nothing. I wonder if he’s going to finish this set.

And the answer is no. Baghdatis retired after losing serve at 2-4 in the second set. Hewitt looked very good and he’ll get Federer next.

I’m looking at Daveydenko to tale it all. Saw him play in Doha(along with Nadal, Federer and also rans) He is a work horse and pretty consistant.

So sad that their excellence frightens and disturbs you… pitiful as well…

I thought he said they were classless. I assume he is referencing Serena’s extremely rude rampage at the US Open. I have no idea about Venus, though.

Serena also has a long history of being not entirely gracious during her post match interviews when she loses. She doesn’t give enough credit to her opponents. I don’t think it is really that big of a deal, but many people looking for an excuse to dislike her talk that one up.
For the record, Clisters did exactly the same thing when she was destroyed the other night, but not so much outrage when Kim does it.

I don’t know what the issue is with Venus.
