Yup…it’s clearly a reference to the New Orleans / Mardi Gras tradition of the [king cake](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_cake#New_Orleans). Still very weird, since “babycakes” is also a (fairly dated and kind of condescending) term of endearment, which I’ve usually heard applied towards women. ---

This, frankly, not so much. WTF is their logo going to be? One of those horrible little plastic baby doll toys they put into king cake? Those featureless lumps of somewhat-baby-shaped horror are like an aborted fetus in your baked confection. Nice. ---

As evidenced by the above link and [this one](http://content.sportslogos.net/news/2016/11/2017-New-Orleans-Baby-Cakes-uniforms-590x206.jpg), “Baby” will not appear anywhere on their uniforms. ---

So, if they didn’t want to include the “baby” part, why did they include it? Just call themselves the “cakes”. Which is still a bit odd, but it’s a heck of a lot better than “Baby Cakes”. ---

Minor Pedantry: it seems to me that “Baby” is the cap logo for at least two of the six uniform combinations (the center two, in the pic you link to). ---
