I like the Beach Boys hit singles well enough, but I’ve never had any of their albums. After seeing Love and Mercy I went out and bought Pet Sounds (Mono & Stereo Remasters). I have to admit it sounds great – the vocals, musicianship and production are excellent…but Brian Wilson just doesn’t do anything for me. My loss I guess.
I would have said that at one point myself but I honestly can’t remember the last time I heard a Beach Boys song on the radio. But then the Oldies station in Little Rock was shut down in 2003 or so.
Here to plug the movie - I caught the matinee today. I thought it was a wonderful movie and the cast was top-notch. I even became teary-eyed during certain scenes (and I’m not a crier) because Paul Giamatti - in the role of Wilson’s doctor - was such a (believable) monster. I agree with the other poster above with regard to not being able to see Wilson past Cusack - but that reflects nothing of his performance (I thought he was great) - I’m just another 40-something woman with an enduring crush on the guy…or on Lloyd Dobler, never quite sure. It’s a tall order for many of us not to see Cusack.
Go see the movie- it was damn good!
Not so sure about this, it’s playing at the same theater as Jurassic World in my town, and we* have* an art house theater.
Did you read post #12?
You might want to take a couple of deep breaths.
Forgot to mention, I really liked the few scenes between young Brian and young Mike and I wish there were more scenes exploring that conflict and frustration at odds with a still present underlying love and respect. The actors were really good together and I think the relationship is worth exploring in a dramatic context.
Finally saw this on it’s last night in town, really great movie, but it made me so sad.
I’ve seen it 4 times now. Sad sometimes, yes, but watching creativity in action is exhilarating.
Well, I’m really glad I went, and I agree about the creativity, but it made me sad all the way through.
