[/quote] I said “named people” so as to exclude #9, #32, and #28. As for the top ten (excluding #9), I recognise only four names: Dick Cheney, George W. Bush, Fred Phelps, and Rudy Giuliani. Reading through the rest of them, they appear to be American politicians, jurists, and criminals. Not living in America, it’s hardly surprising that I wouldn’t know who they are. What proportion of Americans can name the Attorney General of Canada, the perpetrator of the latest mass shooting in Germany, or the leader of the two main UK opposition parties? My point isn’t that Americans are uneducated, but that people in general tend to pay attention to news from or affecting their own political and geographic area. ---
