> If I had a choice between listening to “Imagine” and Barry Manilow singing “Mandy,” it would be a tough call - and have I mentioned that I detest Barry Manilow? Consider it mentioned. But even “Mandy” at least runs the gamut of emotion from A to B, which is more than can be said about “Imagine.”

Except that you should pick a song that Manilow actually wrote. “Mandy” wasn’t one of them.

> "Brandy", later called "Mandy", is a song written by Scott English and Richard Kerr. It was originally recorded by English in 1971 and reached the top 20 of the UK Singles Chart.
> "Brandy" was recorded by New Zealand singer Bunny Walters in 1972, but achieved greater success when released in the United States in 1974 by Barry Manilow. For Manilow's recording, the title changed from "Brandy" to "Mandy" to avoid confusion with Looking Glass's "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)". His version reached the...

Fair enough. I stand by my opinion of Rush though 🙂

Barry didn’t write “I Write The Songs” either, one of the more execrable ditties of the 70’s.

Problem with big fame and fortune is the entertainers sometimes start to believe their own BS. The Beatles were so huge and the hype so pervasive they could literally put anything on an album and it would sell. It’s got to the point the record companies mine the archives for outtakes, and the enthusiasts argue whether it’s Ringo or George belching on take 20 of _You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)._

[hijack] It was written by Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys. The first recording of it I heard was by Captain & Tennile, who were members of the Beach Boys’ touring band and had come to be friends with Johnston.

Or maybe not a hijack since Campbell also had toured with the Beach Boys briefly.

Beatles 1963-1966: Superbly cool pop-rock band
Beatles 1967-1970: So-so studio group with a lot of cheesy songs and horrid image.

Whoops! Sorry, I thought I was in the Glen Campbell thread, so it was a hijack, after all. :o
