With the dawn of the ViVo age, will we see the next generation of advertising icons? Think about the culture of America. So many timeless characters are just shills to take away our hard earned money! Who are the best? The most memorable? I offer that though there are some great ones out there, all fall short in comparison to McDonlad’s **Grimace!** ---

Did you chaps in the US get the jeans advert set in a launderette? With the haunting sound of ‘Heard it on the grapevine’ in the background, a male model called Nick Kamen strolls in, takes off his jeans and washes them. Giggling girls and an old bloke watch in admiration / amazement. (There was a fine spoof followup, with a similar advert, but the catchphrase ‘bet he drinks Carling Black Label!’.) ---

This goes back a ways, and I’m not even sure if he counts as a “character,” but I loved the Jamaican “Uncola Nut Man” from 7-Up commercials in the '60s. (“These are cola nuts…these [holding up a lemon and a lime] are _un_-cola nuts. Rather laaarger than cola nuts. Rather juicier.”) ---
