Wow, a quad post. Something was hanging on either my system or the SDMB and it wouldn’t let me submit my reply… \… OR SO I THOUGHT! Re. _The Day the Earth Stood Still_: The movie was based on the short story “Farewell to the Master” by Harry Bates. The celebrated twist, not used in the movie, is that Gort the robot is actually Klaatu’s master and not vice versa. The “It’s a cookbook!” moment is the zinger from the _Twilight Zone_ episode “To Serve Man.” ---
