No movies yet cited have been set in 2003. Really? The beginning and “Mission Accomplished” of the Eyerack War wasn’t worth making a really good movie about? (Nor have any been set in the period 2006-'09. But that’s so recent it’s the cinematic equivalent of kissing your sister.) ---

For 1932 _They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?_ might be better than the _King Kong_ remake. For 1922 _Thoroughly Modern Millie_ is a good challenger to _Gatsby_ - it’s rated slightly higher on imdb, had Oscar noms etc. ---

I thought KK was pretty forgettable – although I went to Universal Studios last weekend and the attraction was pretty awesome. Also willing to go along with 1922; I haven’t seen either. Personally, I would bounce **1983 Heartbreak Ridge** in favor of the superior **Stand and Deliver** , the former being a fairly forgettable work, IMHO. ---

**1813 Swiss Family Robinson (1940)** Full disclosure: a non-Doper suggested this to me and I have not seen it in a long time (and I think I saw the 1960 version). The Wiki page provides 1813 as its opening (the movie is based on an 1812 book, I gather), but I’m guessing the movie encompassed a number of years. I’m not sure if 1813 is the absolutely correct year. ---

More to consider: **1928 Bullets Over Broadway** (on par with The Artist) **1943 A League of Their Own** (more deserving than Captain America, IMHO) **1958 Pleasantville** (not as elite as Godfather II, but more date-specific) **1973 Almost Famous** (I’m not familiar with Ratcatcher) **1995 The Insider** (I would say on par with Invictus) Some to chew on: **Dances with Wolves** - starts in 1863 (per Wiki), but spans a number of years as I recall, and I don’t know of a specific year to enter it under. **Bugsy** 1946 when the Flamingo Hotel opened??? He was murdered in 1947. (Current 1946 entry is the Godfather, which also spanned a number of years.) **Boogie Nights** 1980??? The story enompasses 1977 - 1984. **Talented Mr. Ripley** - based on 1955 book, but per Wiki, no specific date given, just “'50’s.” I’d leave it out. **Unforgiven** no date given, per Wiki, but sure belongs on the list if we can find one. ---

Empire of the Sun encompassed the entire war. Don’t know that you could pin it down to 1945. Ditto Schindler’s List. Maybe we need to find a different movie, one that is primarily set in 1945. ---

Updating the list. Leaving 1945 as is for now, but I mostly agree with you, **Spoke**.
