I had a few others, shut down the computer without saving. I do remember: **1939 The Natural** Not yet sure how it stands up to **To Be or Not to Be**. I’ll update a little later. Will also try to shed some light on criteria for what makes for the best entry in a given year. ---

1194 **Ivanhoe** (Not sure a date is ever explicitly mentioned but that was the year King Richard was ransomed from Leopold of Austria, which is a major plot point of both book and movie.) Yup, fascinating thread; I’m not sure I’d bet against our being able to find at least one movie for every year from 1750 to present and at least one movie per decade for 50 BCE on up! ---

None of these qualifies. I think the list is best represented by theatrically released movies, but Game Change is not the first non-theatrically released entry (e.g. 61\*). **LMS, Juno** and **The Messenger** were all released in the year the movie is (approximately) set in, so not valid. **JFK** is already on the list. In other words, what\*\* Colibri\*\* said. 😃 ---

OMG, I had neglected to notice one of my top 10 all-time favorite movies! **1991 Three Kings** ( **Grassroots** , my friend tells me, was actually in 2001, no chance against the current entries.)
