Part of me wants to go back and watch (re-watch) every movie set after 2013 so I can see how the future _won’t_ play out. Past movies set in the future _that have already passed_ don’t seem to be very good predictors. I’m surprised that **In Time** is set so far in the future. I guess Justin Timberlake likes to dress retro. ---

But it sort of makes sense when you think about it. If you had a society run by people who live hundreds of years, you’d expect a massive slowdown of social change. ---

I just came in to say, **Cousin Bette** is a wonderful movie, even if it did get included because it had no competing movies set that year. Jessica Lange, Hugh Laurie, Bob Hoskins, Elisabeth Shue (in various states of undress), Kelly Macdonald, and a wickedly nasty revenge story, along with some great costume eye candy - go check it out! ---

1912: For those who don’t love **Titanic** , how about **The Music Man**? 1939: Would **The Sound of Music** qualify? “Last golden days of the thirties”? 1959: That’s **Grease** ’s year. IMDB and Wiki agree. But now I can’t think of anything for 1960! 1964: **That Thing You Do!** 1989: **The Perks of Being a Wallflower** 1997: **The Queen** (Already mentioned by someone upthread.) I agree with an above poster that **The King’s Speech** covers too much ground to be pinned to a specific year. I would say the same about **The Artist**. Starts in 1928, but continues into the early 1930s, and the story turns on events of 1929. Now I’m going to rack my brain for a 1960 title. And can I say how much I love you guys on account of no one has mentioned Dirty Dancing for 1963? Actually, I would suggest **[Shag](http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/shag-1989)** for that year, but the thread title does not end with “…that no one else has ever heard of.” 😉 ---

1727: **Samurai Rebellion**. The year is specifically mentioned a couple of times in the subtitles. One of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. Outstanding in every way. If you liked **Hara-kiri** , you will love this as well. ---
