The best Pink Floyd album

My favourite is The Division Bell. It’s been one of my favourite albums since it came out, and was the first Floyd album I heard, I think, and certainly the first one I paid attention to (I was 16 at the time).

I’ve since got all there other stuff, and numerous bootlegs, but nothing’s ever topped that one for me.

I would be happy to subscribe to Ashley Pomeroy’s newsletter.

I bought everything Floyd published up through The Wall, which I liked a lot briefly, but then sort of hated…except when I thought to concentrate on whatever David Gilmour was doing during a song. I found Waters’ cynicism wearing and not much fun to listen to.

Going back to the beginning, they did nothing that wasn’t near-perfect in their trippy dippy days…careful with that axe, Eugene! And after that I would argue that Dark Side of the Moon to some extent over-benefits from being the respectable and obvious choice, whereas deep down 99.94% of listeners would agree that, stranded on a desert island, they’d instead go with Wish You Were Here or Animals. WYWH I struggle with a little because it’s so inextricably bound with the girl I dated back then, so it’s got that going, but I’m suspicious of my motives.

At the end of the day, though, there is nothing like the visceral and energetic hate of Animals. Hey, you, Whitehouse!

I agree when listening to individual isolated tracks. Cymbaline, Green is the Colour, Fearless…brilliant stuff. One of my favorites is the soundtrack to At Pompeii. For whole album sit-throughs however, DSotM and WYWH can’t be beat.

Good Thread!
I put A Saucerful of Secrets, because I favor the early Floyd over the latter Floyd and Saucerful of Secrets was the first early album that comes to mind. I love Pipers at the Gates of Dawn and Ummagumma as well as the later ones. There hasn’t been a bad Pink Floyd Album. Even the commercial ones are good.

I want to go back and change my mind. But if I did I know I would want to return and change again and again. So many albums are equated with pivotal moments in my life.

And thanks for the " Echoes" ear worm!!!
