I read a bit of a book online that’s supposedly out of print, about the band the Pogues. The author makes frequent use of the term “Banjaxed” while describing the levels of absolute alcohol related debauchery accomplished by Shane and Co, and I just love it. ---

Tuned in. I don’t really know what it means, but I have an elderly maiden aunt who uses it when she talks about some of her friends, like “Myrtle had a few too many Mai Tais at bowling league, and let me tell you, she was Tuned In.” (with dramatic emphasis on the “tuned in.” I like to think it means tuned in, like a radio, to hear those voices that give drunk people ideas about obnoxious behavior. ---

My favorite has always been _ **well lubricated** _! And then there’s my favorite horribly offensive one, **Drunker than a Dozen Indians** , best when horribly slurred. ---

I have three, but they sort of depend on the accent. The accent is a heavy Cape Breton accent which I always affect when I’m talking about being drunk. “Loaded” - sometimes pronounced like LAYOOOOOOOOOODED! due to my native accent. I don’t really have the accent but I use it a lot on purpose. 😃 And “raid edever” - I guess technically it would be “right out of 'er”. But it’s pronounced like “raiiiidedever!”. “Wrote off.” More like “wrote ahhff”. ---

My friends and I use “trashed” to mean “very drunk, but not too drunk”. My favorite expression is “gone”, with heavy emphasis, as in “Aw, man, he is GONE!”. This always means that the person in question has had so much to drink that he can’t be having a good time, and aren’t particularly coherent. “Done” means that one has had just teeny bit too much to drink, will feel fine in a little while, and doesn’t need to drink anymore that night. Of course, when asked how drunk I am, I usually skip fancy expression and say “Not drunk enough.”. ---

I’ve always been fond of “pixilated”, not sure of the origin of that one one. The Spanish word for “drunk” is “boracho” which somehow has more impact than the English word. When speaking of myself when drunk, the word I usually use is “fried”. If you were to change the spelling of pixilated to pixelated, I think that works even better. I’m so soused that I’m no longer capable of presenting a coherent whole. Instead I’ve been reduced to a series of random pixels. ---

As it is the silly season there are plenty of DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE ads. My favourite one (on the radio) includes my favourite term for drunk. “How sober is your sober driver? If he’s pissed then you’re screwed” I also like pissed as a newt, bladdered and munted.
