The nice thing about not following football and baseball is that all sports threads sound equally confusing to me, regardless of the nationality or sport.
Absolutely, it would be a huge mistake under normal circumstances. The only way it might make any sense is if we lose significant time through rain and we (England) want to try to force a win.
There again, when you have the “King of spain” bowling for you how can you go wrong?
Rain? In Manchester?
In any case, it’s academic now as they managed to squeeze in a few overs beginning at 4 p.m. and Australia got to 245 before play was called because of rain.
It’s sad that Warne has the third highest total runs out of the Australian batsmen in the series so far.
On another note, I reckon Shaun Tait will replace Jason Gillespie in the next test.
Well, Australia avoided the follow on. I have to say, their only hope in this one is to play out for a draw and hope for more rain - I just don’t see them getting England out all that quickly, nor making a respectable total in their second innings.
I disagree with my learned friend above. England could have been out for 250 in the first innings if all catches etc had been taken.
A win either way is far more likely than a draw given the pace the teams play at. I understandfine weather (a few showers) predicted for the last two days.
Umm- I think an England win at the moment.
One of my favorite quotations about cricket (Mark Twain??) is something to the effect that cricket was invented by the English, not being a very spiritual people, in order to give them some concept of eternity.
I suppose that now only a small number of us will understand tonights result. Simply historic.
Congratulation to Australia. I thought at the beginning of today’s play they would at least get a draw and so it proved. Exciting though and also disappointing for us. Two fairly evenly matched teams, I only hope England can keep their momentum going.
