Speak for yourself. When I get there I’m claiming the [cupola as my personal quarters](http://www.ucdavis.edu/local_resources/images/hpbg/2012/march/hpbg_caldwell_dyson.jpg).

Yeah, I got a chuckle out of the imagery so I made a [crude photoshop](http://i48.tinypic.com/2cyl754.jpg).

I went to look as soon as I watched it on tv, and I did find a video. [There is also this one.](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GGqHEZBP0E) 😃

One of the biggest surprises this season is how hot Howard is with a beard. Colour me pleasantly surprised!

Speaking of LeVar Burton and Twitter, I got a response from him for one of my tweets! I tweeted, “Is it just me, or is anyone else kind of surprised when they see LeVar Burton has eyes?” and he responded, “Constantly!”

Nerd celebrities are awesome. I got into a focus group? which ended up as a phone discussion with Neil deGrasse Tyson (5? years ago) regarding new PBS science shows. It was crazy that “Neil” and/or his producer was interested enough in my opinions to actually call me.

I actually take a little bit of credit/pride that I am partially responsible for Neil’s recent meteoric rise. My complaints about PBS’s new science shows were that they weren’t “inspirational” enough. They had removed too much of the science and were speaking to far too low of an intelligence. As opposed to previous Novas, Natures, Scientific American Frontiers, Jacques Cousteau, etc. where they gave the science in action. I think the recent David Pogue pieces about “what matter is” or some nonsense like that is the epitome of what I was railing against. Show us the science not some moron’s journey of enlightenment (this also goes for the crocodile hunter BS- whereas talking to someone who had studied reptile and cold-blooded animal metabolism and studied its limitations would have been awesome).

Sorry for the tangent, but I think it is why Dopers are turning against BBT, they are dumbing it down and removing dimensionality from the characters- but celebrities can be awesome!

This has been my complaint against BBT - that they explain shit they shouldn’t. When Howard called Katie Sackoff by her _full name_, during his _sex fantasy_, it totally blew it for me. Just refer to people as you really would and let the viewers get the joke or not.

I agree - think of your target audience and aim for them, not trying to be all things to all people.

> Berating MIT grads as being stupid is _funny_. It isn’t serious commentary on the world. While Sheldon may think it, I don’t think you need to be told that taking Sheldon’s world view to heart is… not the point.

One time my father and I were hiking in the High Sierras, and we met a hiker at the top of a pass who was hiking in the opposite direction and stopped for a few minutes to BS. Somehow the conversation turned to electrical engineering, and when the hiker and my father realized that they both had backgrounds in E.E., the hiker offered that he had graduated from MIT. The hiker then suddenly realized that this could be construed as being boastful, and somewhat embarrassingly asked my father where he had received his degree, to which my father replied “Caltech.” The hiker paused for an uncomfortable few seconds, and then said in a hesitantly deferential tone “uh, well—that’s a _good school_ too.”

There is a long traditional of ribbing rival schools. I went to Vanderbilt myself. When a guy told me he graduated from Georgia Tech, I commented that I’d heard that it was a fine trade school. Actually hatred is reserved for Tennessee graduates.

I don’t know where Sheldon actually got his degree from. He mentioned having 2 PHDs and he did some of his graduate work overseas. He seems to look down on engineers in general, not just MIT graduates.

I think the fact that he’s wearing a hat helps a lot, too.

Aside: Simon Helberg was much more attractive in _Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip_.

Very non-geeky episode, BBT is getting too much like 2 1/2 men. Whiny Howard, spineless Leonard, wishy-washy Penny, and what are they going to do with Stewart when Howard comes back?

I think Helberg’s new look IS really attractive, but his wearing of a baseball cap on the ISS is REALLY bugging me…unless it had a chinstrap ( and I checked, it doesn’t seem to) it wouldn’t stay on his freaking head in zero gravity.

I believe baseball caps are held on your head by friction, not by gravity.
