This was the first movie I ever saw in a movie theater. I’ll always have fond memories of it for that reason alone.

It was a great movie, although I don’t think it was a big commercial hit, but it may have made money since it was probably inexpensive to make (outside of Lancaster’s salary.)
For that reason, it would be a perfect choice for a low-cost Independent film that could get high critical praise at various film festivals.
(someone mentioned a remake with Adam Sandler, but I assume that was a joke. Hell, if Adam Sandler was ever given a life sentence, the Warden would let him escape just for sake of sanity.)
