Ha! That’s a great point. I wonder what they’re waiting for to do a Firefly type show about a rough and tumble trading ship and its crew, exploring the galaxy and barely making enough money to stay flying. Seems like a no brainer to me. ---

I found some of the world-building enjoyable, but honestly the serial Western tropes left me cold (as they typically do) and I suspect that is the most easily replicated “charm” of the old show which they’re likely to lean into. Especially as they already have that same template for The Mandalorian. I think to some extent they got lightning in a bottle with the original cast and I’m not sure the stuff that interested me will be a focus. And we all know it is always all about me 🙂. We’ll see I suppose. I’ll give it a shot unless reviews are dire, but I’m not terribly optimistic. ---

Episode 2 felt like Dances with Tuscan Raiders. I, too am tired of Tatooine. I hate sand, it gets everywhere. Why would Boba Fett want to stay there? ---

I often watch a lot of nerdy analysis from Star Wars and MCU fans on YouTube, and though it is mostly fun fluffy nonsense, sometimes there’s some nuggets that make sense. Consider how unwell Boba Fett has shown himself to be since suffering within the Sarlacc. We don’t know how long he was in there, but when he emerged the Sail Barge was not still smoking, so it may have been many days or weeks. He is also extremely exhausted after the fight in the streets of Mos Espa and had to be helped by the Gamorreans to his Bacta Tank. Meanwhile, Fett also does not seem to be as interested in the highly physical job of Bounty Hunting anymore. He wants to settle down to a more sedentary job of ruling the Tatooine criminal underworld, something he has no experience in, but is clearly influenced by his experiences with the Tuskens\*, who have shown him respect, consideration, and support during his convalescence. I think this is simply the story of his readjustment to a different life, so he is going to appear as a different person. He is visibly aged\* after a harrowing ordeal, he is barely able to survive a short fistfight, and he is struggling to understand the complexities of controlling wayward criminal syndicates. I’m interested to see where it goes. I don’t think we need read much more into it than to just sit back and have fun as the story unfolds. \*_Fett’s new fighting style, Temuera Morrison’s own from his Maori heritage, is justified by his experience with the Tuskens. Morrison’s age, a good 15 or more years older than he ought to be on the timeline, explained by Fett’s sarlacc scarring and degraded health_ ---

He goes through extensive fight training with the Tuscans, no problem. He goes to a Tosche Station bar and kicks the asses of a bunch of space bikers, no problem. He leads the Tuscans on a violent train heist, no problem. In the future he gets into a little street skirmish and needs a Bacta tank re-juve? Something must happen between now and then. Or, it doesn’t make sense. ---

In all fairness, we don’t really know how “nice” or “ruthless” Boba Fett actually is. I mean from the movies, all we really know about him is he is a bounty hunter and has a penchant for “disintegrations”. Technically he’s not even acting as a “bad guy”. Regardless of what you think of the politics of the Empire and Darth Vader, all Boba Fett is really doing is acting as a paid agent of the Galactic government to bring in a wanted terrorist and space pirate who was involved in the destruction of a major government installation, killing millions. The only time we see Boba Fett fight in the original films, he quickly gets knocked into a Sarlac pit by a blind man. ---

Yeah, as someone who never really got the Boba Fett hype, I kind of like that the series is acknowledging (even if they don’t really mean to) that he’s not actually as cool and badass as the fanboys have made him out to be. 🙂 So far, I don’t like it quite as much as I did _The Mandalorian_, but I’ll stick with it. Like others have speculated, I suspect that the flashbacks are going to be where the main story is told, with the “present day” stuff more of an add-on where we see how the things Fett learned from the Tuskens are serving him in good stead. Too bad that that probably means that Ming-Na Wen will have a smaller role than I originally envisioned. Maybe they need to give Fett a cute little puppet sidekick to really bring in the fans! ---
