Starlight kicking Stormfront made little sense. She should have been using her powers. The other two are about physical fighting. So that was fine.

Thats what I don’t get. I understand supes aren’t invulnerable but if bullets, energy waves, kicks from other supes, etc. don’t injure you much at all I don’t see why being stabbed by a non supe would.

Maybe their eyes are more vulnerable? I have no idea.

I can _imagine_ that being the case, but it would have been helpful if they showed Stormfront as vulnerable but able to regenerate from eye injuries or something. Otherwise it seems like that would have happened at some point. That said, I’m pretty sure she’s dead. All dead. Not mostly dead. _She’s not only nearly dead, she’s really quite sincerely dead._ Also, I speak German but darned if I could make out what she was saying in any language, so I appreciate the mention above. I have no idea how anyone could hear that.

As far as the Senator, I think she is almost certainly a Vought plant in some fashion. Her actions aided Stan Edgar, for one. To break it down:
(1) She removed a government agent that was investigating Vought and had already gained damaging information - but only after she gave some of that to The Boys. The information she handed over just happened to be a crucial lead on Stormfront’s identity and in fact lead indirectly to Stormfront being destroyed in public.
(2) She then kept in close touch with Vought’s enemies.
(3) She killed someone about to testify in public against Vought and a bunch of random people, which not only protected Edgar but also led directly to the plan to hand out superpowers to many thousands of people.
(4) When promised potential leverage against Vought, she then destroyed the one person who may have been best placed to do additional damage.

Remember, a couple of episodes earlier thet cut Starlight with a Dremel.

Well, in addition to her light/energy blasts, Starlight has super strength, so she _was_ using her powers. Plus she may not have been able to use her light blast on Stormfront while Maeve and Kimiko were up close whaling on her, so she joined in the beating.

Also, she needs to get the energy from electricity, and there wasnt much out there.

Pretty much all the Seven are stronger than a human, and mostly invulnerable.

yup, I remember. but I don’t know if different supes have different levels of vulnerability, or if different body parts have different vulnerability levels. homelander seemed to be able to harm starlight in an elevator pretty easily.

Frankly, the exact details of powers/invulnerabilities don’t really matter to me. That’s not what the show is about.

During the Vought press conference at the end, Homelander says that Stormfront, “has been neutralized and is being held in an undisclosed location.” Now, he could be lying for some reason and she really is dead, but I’m not sure what the motivation for that would be. I think at the very least it’s been left ambiguous for the viewer so the show can bring her back sometime if they want.

Starlight is visibly terrified of Homelander. He unquestionably is more powerful than her.

I’ve read that the creators of the show have confirmed that she’s still alive. And that since she ages, and thus heals, slowly, she’s quite miserable.

Under the right conditions, a knife can be enormously more damaging than a bullet. Knives have hardened steel blades (as compared to copper/lead) and concentrate all their force into a tiny point. The pressure at that point will be far higher than a typical bullet. Kevlar armor can stop handgun bullets but not the tip of a knife, at least not without something extra. Presumably, a supe’s eyes are weaker than the rest of their body, even if they are ridiculously resilient by normal standards. Also, we know from the death of Translucent that supes are still pretty squishy on the inside, even if their skin is tough.

Now, if The Boys got their hands on some saboted bullets with depleted uranium penetrators, that might actually make their guns somewhat effective.

I went back and started re-watching season 1 thinking there would be things I’d missed or forgotten and I was right. There is loads of stuff I totally missed or didn’t really understand watching it the first time around.

I think I’m even enjoying it more the second time. Especially Homelander. I missed how fragile and crazy he actually is. He’s been my favourite character throughout both seasons and now, watching it again, doubly so.

Ah, I assumed that was a lie so they didn’t have to explain that she’d been killed. She looked pretty well into her death throes to me in that last scene of her.

That’s what confused me so much - it appeared that was something they were deliberately building to all season and then… skipped the payoff for no reason.

Homelander is an interesting villain in that concepts of good and evil, right and wrong, and so on bounce off of him like, well, bullets off his super-toughness. He wants so badly to be a hero while fundamentally having no understanding of what that means. Vought has left a trail of moral wreckage in its wake and Homelander is basically the perfect example. They damaged him so badly that seems like he can never trust _anyone_ anymore. Everyone is afraid of his power, but he seems to be afraid that everyone will betray him and/or destroy the fantasy - which he only halfway understands is a fantasy. In his defence, he has moments where he understands what it means to be human; he’s able to connect with Ryan. So the tragedy of Homelander is that if not for Vought treating supers like lab rats and marketing icons, he really might have been a hero.

The Deep has become my favorite character now, though. He’s actually better as Homelander’s antithesis than Starlight; he has physical oddities which he conceals, he has serious emotional issues to match, and his powers are more interesting but not nearly as physically potent. Also - given his screen time I also don’t think he ever killed anyone, even by accident. Given the way he was introduced, I assumed he would remain a loathsome guy but actually turns out to be pretty interesting. And I have a feeling that he and Eagle will figure some things out for themselves.

Queen Maeve, though, is intriguing: I get that they’re _trying_ to do some interesting stuff with The Deep, and I want to see how it keeps playing out; but Maeve’s story, and how she contrasts with various other characters, seems to have more going for it.

One thing bugged me about Stormfront’s appearance after Ryan gave her the Anakin-on-Mustafar treatment. The _left_ side of her face was cooked. But when she had Becca up against the tree, she was presenting the _right_ side of her head to him.
🤔

I just hope they give Gill some more scenes. Patton Oswalt is an excellent character actor/VO artist.
