According to tabloid reports, but some I can believe, he was more into rentboys than relationships because of his belief in the immorality of homosexual relationships. Very sad.

> I don’t see it. It’s a business after all. Reed supposedly shut down the show’s production for a few hours because of a disagreement about whether you could smell cooked strawberries. Reed was entitled to state his opinion but when Sherwood told him to just say the line, Reed should have gone ahead and done the job he was hired for.

I can’t disagree. Reed also seemed to have a penchant for waiting for the least convenient, flexibility-free moment to make his demands. He probably had the script for at least a few days ahead of shooting most of the disputed scenes; while some stories have him objecting in advance, a lot of them seem to be on-set, camera-hot snits.

One of the books about The Brady Bunch (perhaps the one by Barry Williams) mentioned the episode filmed at the amusement park. They were going to film the family on the roller coaster from a camera bolted to the front of the train, but Robert Reed insisted that they first run the train empty, at which point they discovered that the camera was too high, as it got knocked off. Had there been passengers in the train, they might have gotten hit by the flying camera.

> According to Coral Amende’s “Hollywood Confidential”\*, the other performer was Teri Garr, who said: “Dustin Hoffman’s perfectionism? If you argue with him on something, he wants his point and he wants his way. Finally, if you say, ‘All right, we’ll do it your way,’ he’ll say, ‘No, I don’t want to do it my way until you like doing it my way.’ It’s not enough to give in to him, you have to like what he wants, too.”

Gotta give props to someone who can argue with Teri Garr, and win. In her heyday, she could have convinced me of almost anything…

…if I was lucky.

Hold on a minute…

Cooked strawberries have no aroma? That can’t be right.

Even if it is right (and I have no idea), if it was a lot of them you’d think you’d still have the aroma from before they were cooked.

I wonder if he was that much trouble on _Roots_. (Even I would have had to protest that Levar Burton will never grow up to look like John Amos.)
