Bricker -

I’ll wait and see how you score a certain question. I think it’s one of the ones Omni got wrong, so IMO, you have it right. 🙂

Shayna,

Well, in a sense, you’ve have updated your answers – two of them, anyway 🙂

I am well and truly impressed with your research skills – not to mention your raw trivia skills.

One more thing to clear up: the ‘convoluted’ provisional ball rule. Because I am a golf geek… I feel compelled to explain.

The need for this rule becomes clear when you consider that if you hit a ball out of bounds, you must take a one-stroke penalty and play another ball _from the spot where the first ball was hit_. Similarly, if you lose a ball, you must play another from the last spot from which you hit, again with a penalty stroke.

But if you’re not sure the ball actually went out of bounds, or is lost… think how much time would be taken up… you trot down the fairway, look for the ball (maximum of five minutes), declare it lost, go back to the spot, and hit another. Huge time waster, and it will give the people playing behind you cause for justifiable homicide.

So if you think a ball you just hit might be either lost or out-of-bounds, you don’t move from your spot until you hit a provisional ball. That ball becomes your real, in-play ball ONLY if the first one was really out-of-bounds or lost. If the first one ended up in bounds, or you find it, you pick up the provisional ball and play the first one with no penalty.

If, however, the first ball was out or lost, you take your penalty stroke and play the provisional ball from that point on.

Note that you can’t decide which ball to play based on better positioning… if your first ball isn’t lost at all, but just in an ugly lie right up against a tree, and your provisional ball is sitting right in the middle of the fairway… you still have to pick up the provisional ball.

There is such a thing as declaring a ball an “unplayable lie” – but this does not involve a provisional ball. You call the unplayable lie from the spot of the shot, take a stroke penalty, and hit again. Finally, note the difference between this and a “mulligan.” A mulligan is an illegal process that allows a player to simply disregard a shot he doesn’t like, and take another with no penalty.

Now I’m all ready to get out on the links again… but they are all covered with snow! WAAHH!!

🙂

There is no rule restricting where you get the answer.

Out of curiosity, I did request that people annotate their source (personal knowledge, Internet, asked mom, whatever) but it’s not a requirement.

What seems to be evolving is a system where someone will answer as besrt they can on their own, and then post again with research/pirated answers from others/etc in order to be in the running for the prize.

That’s fine… nothing wrong with that.

The answers?

That’s gotta wait until tomorrow at 11:00 PM, or until someone posts 50 correct ones.

If there’s an individual question you want to know about, ask - if it’s been answered correctly by everyone I’ll assume it’s not in doubt, and confirm it.

Shayna Challenge #1: What is 38 + 2? (Hint: It’s not 38).

LMAO!

Now, I know I said I wasn’t going to go back and fix our answers so we could win, but I would at least appreciate if our score was an accurate reflection of our efforts overall :D.

And may I also request that Grace’s name appear with mine on the score list, please? I did the posting, but it really was a joint effort, and I’d like her to get the proper recognition for her brilliance as well.

Thank you, my friend 🙂

P.S.: Will there be a Challenge #3? (Please, please, please!)

[blushing] Awww, how sweet.

In that case, may I also make a plea on behalf of Frankd6 and Tinker Grey, who also played but remain scoreless?

LOL, Rick, you have created a very challenging and fun game. Clearly your intelligence is not in question. You might want to consider a check-up with your optometrist though - hehehe.

So see, Frankie, you weren’t the only one. Perhaps he has a thing about posters with “nk” in their names. Hmmmmm. [scratching my head]Could there be some deep meaning behind that little coinkydink??[/scratching]

## Rick, I do want to thank you again for all the hard work you’ve done putting this together for us. I used to host games similar to this on another message forum, so I know how time consuming and frustrating (at times) it can be to administer. I’m sure I can speak for everyone who’s played; we really appreciate it!

Bricker –
I’m stickin’ w/ WAGs. I refuse to do searches for questions 'cause that’s what I prefer to do.
I rest in the humble knowledge that no one who’s answered has ever heard a Carling’s Beer commercial.
Can I get a little asterisk beside muy score denoting WAGs?
