I see you missed that little thing I wrote up there about karma, Satan… Although I was amused by the one about the Jets, I feel incredibly bad for the team and their fans. Until Testaverde’s injury, I thought they might have a shot at going to the Super Bowl. Now it looks like Miami and Jax are going to duke it out, because the Jets seem to be utterly demoralized. I’m just glad that Flutie seems to have been able to get over his NYJ curse. Whatever it takes, I guess. ---

manhattan - More like 47 yards away, but who’s counting? So, what is your allegiance - The Giants or that other team? DB: Karma? Well, the Giants sucked for my dad for almost all of his life! I remember as a child watching him watch the games on TV and running in horror to my mom when he started screaming. Best quotes: Dad: Tackle him… Tackle HIM… TACKLE HIM!! ARGHGHGHH! GOD DAM… DAMN-DAMN-DAMN-DAMN-DAMN…!!! Me: Daddy, he DID tackle him! Dad: NOT SOON ENOUGH!!! Then there was the time - probably right after “The Fumble” (Eagle fans know this as “The Miracle in the Meadowlands”) when he really went crazy. I cried, “Why do you even watch this if it makes you like this? You’re not having fun!” He looked at me, still fuming, bulging eyes and perspiration running down his face, said quietly, “What gives you the impression I’m not having fun?” Despite my fear, I wound up just like him. I even go to a Giants fan club every week and get to be surrounded by caustic, pissed-off New Yorkers while we, inevitably, lose yet again. And I also have been known to abuse things, though now I opt for pillows… So to answer your karma comment, DB - Blow it up your Flutie! My dad dealt with enough bad karma through the entire '70s that we could win the next dozen SB’s and it wouldn’t be enough! ---

So why make it worse? Here’s an interesting story about karma. A few years back, the Bills were playing a wild card game against the Houston Oilers. My stepfather, a Buffalo native, made a big batch of wings, and we all sat down to watch the game. The Bills were down something like 35-3 at the half. My stepfather gets pissed off and goes upstairs to do some work, leaving mom and I downstairs to watch the game. And then they start coming back. Eventually, my stepfather hears us screaming and comes downstairs. At that point, the Bills did something bad, so we banished him upstairs, telling him that since he hadn’t been loyal enough to watch the whole game, he was the one making the Bills screw up. So he went upstairs, and every time he turned on the upstairs TV, we screamed at him to turn it off. The game ended up being the greatest comeback in the history of the NFL, and my stepfather missed it. To this day, I’m still searching for someone who may have taped the game so we can give it to him for his birthday, but it doesn’t look promising. ---

Satan: I’m one of the rare ones who switched. I was a Giants fan – lived through “the fumble,” Ray Handley, and all of that. Also got to enjoy the Superbowls. But when Tisch came in I started to question my own loyalty. Then the Jints went and hired Known Superbowl Loser Dan Reeves. Just then, my name came up on the Jets season-ticket waiting list. I jumped. Only had to wait one year to get Tuna back, too. I miss the Giant’s history, I miss the possibility of ever seeing a Superbowl (this was supposed to be the year – so much for buying in at the bottom). I miss Pat and John. I miss hating the Redskins, but hating the Patriots is almost as much fun. As a football fan, I get to hate the Cowboys even across divisions. ## But actually seeing the game 8 times a year (10, last year) is the best. And the new-old uniforms are great. Livin’ on Tums, Vitamin E and Rogaine ---

## Me? Hiding? Nooooo… Just trying to get out of the way of the bus that smacked the Browns 3 different times over the past 3 weeks. You know what? I didn’t even watch the Browns loose to Baltimore. Its not that I didn’t want to, its just when living in Cincinnati everyone gets forced to watch the Bengals. Still no Lions fans? I thought their 2-0 start over 2 playoff teams would have stirred up some. Oh well…I’ve been alone before! and Satan? My dad and I have been struggling with the Lions since the 50’s. At least you have a couple of Super Bowls in your life! The way I see it.
