And now that I think more about this, was it the OPP or the RCMP that handled the investigation? Mounties don’t normally do Criminal Code matters in Ontario. ---

okay, I checked. it was an RCMP investigation, but the two Crowns who had the prosecution were with the Ontario Attorney Generals department: [A Toronto judge, two veteran prosecutors, and a lion for the defence: Who’s who in the Mike Duffy trial](http://ottawacitizen.com/news/national/a-toronto-judge-two-veteran-prosecutors-and-a-lion-for-the-defence-whos-who-in-the-mike-duffy-trial) So if you’re alleging it was a politically motivated prosecution, the Liberal government of Ontario was in on it. ---

Sure, but mens rea and reasonable doubt can be assessed on an objective standard, such as if a nurse says your kid may have meningitis, and he’s too stiff to sit in a car seat, you go to an ER. That seems to be what the jury decided. ---
