Former major-league baseball catcher and manager [Johnny Oates](http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/25/sports/baseball/25oates.html) has died at the age of 58. I don’t know if anybody picked him for this year, but I know he was a 2005 selection for several posters. (Link is to _New York Times_, and thus requires free, non-intrusive registration.) ---
