I replaced Keith Richards with Hunter S. Thompson at the last minute–whew! Richards is never going to die. Although suicide, instead of an accidental overdose of drugs or the wrong guy’s wife, was not what I was expecting. Not gonzo. ---

It seems to be slowly getting worse for John Paul II. It seems that every time he is sick, it’s a little worse than it was the previous time. Two hospital trips in a month is not good news for any old man. It’s good news for 132 of us sickos, though. 😃 ---

After many days of puttering around, I finally have a long-overdue Death Pool update. The big news is that **Captain Lance Murdoch** has dropped to third place! But first: I am invoking Rule #5 with regard to Sandra Dee. Her age has been given as 60, 62, and 63. Per Rule #5, I am going with age 63, making her worth a not-too-shabby 37 points. With that in mind… **LilyoftheValley** leaps nimbly on to the scoreboard and takes the lead with 70 points: 37 points for Sandra Dee and 33 points for Hunter S. Thompson. A mysterious newcomer known only as **Rachm Qoch** appears in our midst with 65 points: 40 points for the passing of science fiction writer Jack L. Chalker and 25 points with the death of Dr. Gene Scott, both of which are unique picks. **Irreverent Tone** and **ladybug** - also share 37 points for Sandra Dee and are tied for fifth place. **Kilvert’s Pagan** , the poster formerly known as **tpayne** and **racer72** - speed into sixth place with 33 points each for Hunter S. Thompson. Congratulations, scorers! And nobody picked Ernst Mayr, Gnassingbe Eyadema, Karl Haas, Merle Kilgore, Dan Lee, Keith Knudsen, Doris Boshart, Sammi Smith, Sister Lucia dos Santos, Dick Weber, F. M. Busby, John Raitt, or Edward Patten. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go rest up before the Pope snuffs it. ---
