Apparently there was a prominent terrorist back in the nineties who used the alias Abu Hafs al-Masri (his real name was Mohammed Atef). He was Obama bin-Laden’s in-law and helped plan the 1998 embassy bombing. So he was Old School al Qaida. He was killed by an USAF air-strike during the invasion of Afghanistan which sealed his legend. Now he’s like the James Dean or Tupac Shakur of Islamic terrorism and all the up-and-comers are calling themselves something like Abu Bob al-Masri or Abu Fred al-Masri. ---
