Eddie Thompson died. In 2008. I guess whoever my my first alternate was is on my list now. I don’t think I was the only person to pick Thompson, but I could be wrong. ---

That’s what I get for throwing everything together at the last minute. [Eddie Thompson](http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/d/dundee_utd/7243839.stm) was a British soccer team owner. I’ll bet his death made as big a splash here as Twins’ owner Carl Pohlad’s passing made in the UK. ---

And as a note to all contestants - I don’t check the status of all 800+ celebrities, nor do I check them during the year. I just go by what people post in this thread for news on who has died, so I rely on you to bring us the grim tidings. ---

In a freak accident, the restaurant where John Paul Stevens, Ted Stevens, Amy Winehouse, Mary-Kate Olsen, Liza Minelli, Janet Jackson, Jade Goody, Bob Barker, Tony Curtis, Ron White, Tim Conway, Eminem, and Eddie Van Halen were all dining was hit by a cement truck. I just happened on [this report](http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2009/01/fantasy-island-star-ricardo-montalban-dead.php) that Ricardo Montalban has passed away. But I can’t find any other confirmation of it. And of course I picked the wrong old Star Trek actor for my list. At least I am keeping some other people alive with the benefit of being on my list. ---

Vaclev Havel is in serious condition with throat problems stemming from chain smoking. I’m sure no one had them but… Sidney Wood, the only person to ever win Wimbledon by default has died. Coosje VanBruggen who collaborated with husband Claes Oldenburg on many of his sculptures (including the Cherry-Spoon for Minneapolitans out there) has died.
