[Alexis Arguello](http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-alexis-arguello2-2009jul02,0,2053658.story), who was serving as mayor of the Nicaraguan capital city, Managua, has passed away at the age of 57. Before turning to politics, Arguello had gained fame in the boxing ring. At various times, he held world championship belts in the featherweight, super featherweight, and lightweight classes. In 1992, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. ---
