[Budd Schulberg](http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-budd-schulberg6-2009aug06,0,4184115.story?page=1), who won an Academy Award for his _On the Waterfront_ screenplay, has died at the age of 95. Schulberg was also acclaimed for his novel _What Makes Sammy Run?_, an account of the rise of a hustler from newspaper copy boy to Hollywood producer. ---

[John Hughes](http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-john-hughes7-2009aug07,0,6413498.story), the director of such teen-oriented films as _The Breakfast Club_ and _Sixteen Candles_, has passed away at the age of 59. Hughes suffered a heart attack while visiting family in New York City. ---

Damn it… I am actually not that happy about scoring my first points EVER in this damned game (3 years I’ve been in, I think… maybe 4?). I thought that having people on my list made them fucking immortal- now I’m scared that some righteous undead folks on my list might be next… ☹ ---

I had him on my list in 2006 and 2007, after which I dropped him because of his surprising longevity. ---
