[Girija Prasad Koirala](http://www.latimes.com/news/la-me-girija-prasad-koirala21-2-10mar21,0,4238119.story), who served five terms as Nepal’s prime minister, has died at the age of 86. In 2006, Koirala led street demonstrations that forced King Gyanendra to give up ruling in an authoritarian manner. Two years later, the Nepalese monarchy was abolished, and Gyanendra shortly thereafter stepped down to allow a new coalition government to take power in the Himalayan nation. ---

Oh yeah, I see death panels for celebrities, and death panels made up _of_ celebrities. There’ll be a special series for prisoners, and the death panelists will all be Fox news celebs. We can watch Sean Hannity and Billo decide which Federal prisoners get health care. I predict an extremely low survival rate. ---

Although I didn’t know her personally our orbits intersected on a few occasions over the past decade; she was a fierce advocate for her late husband’s music and had a fiery Italian temper. She also had a way of wearing [hats](http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/18915394.jpg) that few in the modern generation can manage. [Wolfgang Wagner](http://www.philly.com/philly/obituaries/88890432.html), grandson of _Ring_ composer Richard Wagner, gone to Valhalla at 90. He directed the prestigious Bayreuth Opera Festival for over fifty years but it was the family dramas that made his life interesting, particularly the rather nasty anti-semitism of his mother and the endless power struggles (with his family and others) over control of the festival. ---
