[Harold Connolly](http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-harold-connolly-20100820,0,7893155.story), the gold medalist in the hammer throw in the Melbourne Olympics of 1956, has died at the age of 79. Connolly also made headlines that year for his pursuit of Czechoslovakia’s Olga Fikotová, who took the gold in the discus. The two were married in Prague in 1957, but eventually divorced after having four children. One son, James, was the NCAA decathlon champion while representing UCLA in 1987. ---
