The Celebrity Death Pool 2010

Girija Prasad Koirala, who served five terms as Nepal’s prime minister, has died at the age of 86. In 2006, Koirala led street demonstrations that forced King Gyanendra to give up ruling in an authoritarian manner. Two years later, the Nepalese monarchy was abolished, and Gyanendra shortly thereafter stepped down to allow a new coalition government to take power in the Himalayan nation.

A unique pick for Captain Lance Murdoch.

Wow - it really was death week, wasn’t it?

As all my picks are 17 points at best, hats off to the Captain for knowing his cancer patients and scoring a cool 50.

Just wait til those death panels get up to speed now the health care reform has passed.

Ah, our only concern is celebrities. Even ones most have never heard of until seeing their ends posted here. All other death is beneath our notice.

Yes, but there will be Celebrity Death Panels, on TV!

Now there is a way to up ratings. Bet Fox puts in on the air first.

Oh yeah, I see death panels for celebrities, and death panels made up of celebrities. There’ll be a special series for prisoners, and the death panelists will all be Fox news celebs. We can watch Sean Hannity and Billo decide which Federal prisoners get health care. I predict an extremely low survival rate.

See? In all the excitement, I had forgotten her age already. Good thing a steady hand and cool head is running this show, otherwise all would be lost!

Two close relations of famous composers died on Sunday:

Lady Susana Walton, widow of Sir William Walton, passed away at age 83. Although I didn’t know her personally our orbits intersected on a few occasions over the past decade; she was a fierce advocate for her late husband’s music and had a fiery Italian temper. She also had a way of wearing hats that few in the modern generation can manage.

Wolfgang Wagner, grandson of Ring composer Richard Wagner, gone to Valhalla at 90. He directed the prestigious Bayreuth Opera Festival for over fifty years but it was the family dramas that made his life interesting, particularly the rather nasty anti-semitism of his mother and the endless power struggles (with his family and others) over control of the festival.

Harry Carpenter, BBC sports commentator (mostly associated with boxing), died on Saturday aged 84.

Robert Culp has gone to his reward: http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/sns-ap-us-obit-robert-culp,0,1054810.story

Looks like he ran the final scenario - where’s Mr. H when you need him?

Johnny Maestro who sang “16 Candles” for the Crest has died of cancer at age 70.

Looks like that drain circling is picking up…erm… Speed
And my trip to hell gets ever that much faster

He also sang lead for the Brooklyn Bridge. It’s the worst that can happen to him.
