He was part of the Baltimore Oriole starting pitching rotation that featured 4 20-game winners in 1971.

There wasn’t any 20 game winner in the major league last year.

Eugene TerreBlanche, who formed and led the Afrikaner Resistance Movement during South Africa’s apartheid era, was killed at the age of 69. TerreBlanche (whose surname translates to “white land”) had called in the 1980’s for three homelands to be carved from his country and reserved for Caucasian citizens, with blacks allowed only as guest laborers. He was fatally attacked yesterday by two men who subsequently claimed (when questioned by investigators) that they had worked for TerreBlanche but not been paid.

OK, that makes me kind of sad, having spent two summers (eons ago, while I was in grad school) working at “Unto These Hills” in Cherokee, NC. It was cheesy then. I bet it’s cheesy now, but I had the chance to work with a lot of Cherokees. I didn’t know any Mankillers, but I knew Walkingsticks, Bushyheads, and Bigmeats.

So, over Easter, I brought up the topic of a Death Pool. I asked my cousin if he ever played in one.

He told me that he didn’t play in one, because he thought it was too sick* , **.

*And I remind you of the reservations I used to have before getting in this year.

** And I didn’t expect him to have any reservations on the concept at all. Yet he knew what it was.
