When he was selected to play for England on their tour of South Africa in 1968, South Africa refused to accept the presence of a “coloured” person. England canceled the tour and subsequently banned all sporting ties with South Africa. No official cricket team from any country visited South Africa again until the end of apartheid. ---

The 69-year-old Walt Hazzard died Friday afternoon at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center surrounded by family and friends, according to a statement from his family. He had been recuperating from complications following heart surgery. Walt led UCLA to the first of its dominant NCAA basketball titles under coach John Wooden. He was on the 1964 Olympic Gold Medal winning basketball team. He had a successful NBA career and then coaching career. ---

I’m considering joining. I have to conquer my fear that playing this game will sentence me to a hell I don’t even believe in.:eek: So how do you guys pick. Do you google near death celebrities or something? :shudder: I feel squicky just typing that. ---

They are potential members of the 27 club. Concentrate on musicians (though your definition of a musician may vary from celebrity definitions), those with documented drug problems, and those with altered mental states. Amy Winehouse was a big “winner” from this year - 73 points. There are some stalwarts on the lists; Zsa Zsa Gabor ( actually think she’ll make it next year), Dick Clark, Abe Vigoda, and Ariel Sharon (Futurama head in globe candidate). Franco is still dead. ---
