The Celebrity Death Pool 2011

Don’t they just have to be 18 at the time of death? Once they are dead, they are 18
forever, right?

What if their birthday is December 20?

Dave Gavitt, who coached Providence College to the 1973 NCAA basketball Final Four and later served as the founding commissioner of the Big East Conference, has died at the age of 73. Gavitt also headed USA Basketball when NBA players began competing in the Olympics in 1992, the year of the first “Dream Team”.

Yes, and the world is scheduled to end on December 21, 2012. So if you choose someone who is 18 at the start of the year, but has a birthday and turns 19 before Dec 21, you will not be maximizing your points.

Ah, another rules question – can you pick someone who’s 17 when you make the pick, but who turns 18 by the date of their death? How about – if they die while they’re still 17, you get no points.

I vote we make the rule that the chosen has to be 18 as of the first day of the competition (Jan 1) so those who are going for maximum doomsday points have their choices limited to famous people born between 22-31 December 1993. Good luck with that.

Yes. The specific wording is that picks must not be:

so there is nothing to stop you choosing a 17 year old.

Did I not get a memo? Or was it a Facebook thing?

I found the date on Wikipedia, so I suppose there is a small chance that it is wrong and we will all survive. Or perish on a different date. It would be a bummer to pick someone with a Dec 22 birthday only to have Armageddon occur on Dec 23.

Yes, but her death was not in vain, because I’m not stuck at zero points anymore.

But I’m still sad.

Damn, my birthday is on the 19th. I better have one helluva party!

That’s a great idea. Id have to think quite a bit about what to do for an apocalypse party. Even hookers and blow wouldn’t be enough.

Tom Wilson, creator of Ziggy, at 80.

Bah, according to Harold Camping it all ends on October 21, 2011. This is after the latest prediction of May 21, 2011. Camping later [del]moved the goal posts[/del] “modified” that prediction to state that a “spiritual judgement” did occur on the May date and physical rapture, destruction of the universe, marriage of Bert and Ernie, etc… will occur in October.

Well that’s not very funny. Huh. Fitting.

Bob Hope’s wife, Dolores, has died. Age? 102.

I have to admit, I can’t imagine how rare it is to have a married couple both live to 100.

My birthday is the 20th.

Celebrate as wildly as you like - the hangover will not last long.

Well, that explains why Ziggy’s been phoning it in for the last thirty years.

I’ll take “Comic Strips That Should Have Ended in the 1970s” for $1000, Alex.

His son has been writing it for quite a while.
