The Celebrity Death Pool 2011

Dammit. 15 points!

I mean, “Congratulations to our Fellow Players”.
Dammit.

I originally had Ursula LeGuin on my list, replaced by Aretha Franklin. Looks like I had the wrong old scifi lady anyway.

Aretha Franklin. Let us not even mention her.

Yep. SpazCat and Eleanor of Aquitaine were the lucky Dopers!

I have both Aretha Franklin and Michael Douglas on my list.

Michael Douglas - stage 4 throat cancer - is planning his next film.

Maybe he’ll fall down a set of stairs or something.

Talk about a Death Tease.

Yup, I have both too. I heard he took up smoking again. I’m doubtful he can smoke enough to do the job in the next month. Maybe Catherine can blow him all the way to a stroke. I can’t think of a better way to go…

FWIW, Michael Douglas was playing in a European Tour Golf Pro-Am last month.

People die playing golf. It happens!

I didn’t really want those points. *pulls *Dragonquest off the shelf

I have no pride no shame. You can give them to me!

Let’s go back in time and trade people on our lists.

Dammit, that’s two of my favorite authors dead this year. Robin McKinley better live another thirty years, is all I’m gonna say.

How do you like it? How do you like it? 32 “More, More, More” points if you picked porn star cum disco singer Andrea True.

Nobody picked her.

Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Biafran leader, age 78. Modesty forbids my pointing out whether anyone had him or not.

Tom Wicker, whose career at the New York Times was highlighted by his on-the-scene reporting from Dallas on the day President Kennedy was assassinated, has died at the age of 85. Wicker also gained fame for unsuccessfully attempting to mediate a peaceful end to the Attica Correctional Facility riot in 1971.

Boxer Ron Lyle, who was a part of the glory days of the heavyweight division in the mid-1970’s, died unexpectedly today in Denver. He fought title bouts with both Muhammad Ali and George Foreman, losing to both.

Nobody had Wicker or Lyle.

Jeno Paulucci, who founded the Chun King frozen food company, has died at the age of 93. Paulucci also created Jeno’s Pizza Rolls, which he not-so-modestly named after himself, and Michelina’s frozen dinners, which he named after his mother.

Maggie Daley, wife of long-time Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley, died on Thanksgiving day at 68.

She was well known for her charitable work, and even in death she has generously donated 32 points to my Death Pool score.
