That’s sad. I saw Ballesteros in 1976 when he just failed to win The Open Championship at the age of 19.
It was clear from the player tributes at The Masters last month that those in the know were aware that Seve was not doing well.

I was never a Seve fan, but there is no doubt he has been one of the influential golfers of the last 40 years. And probably THE biggest reason why the Ryder Cup has its current place in the game.
Seve completely lost his golf game in the mid 90’s. He couldn’t shoot par in any golf round, and many times good not break 80. In the last couple of years, I have wondered if his loss of golf form was a leading indicator of his brain cancer.
I have nothing but best wishes for Seve.
Obviously, he is not on your list?
Now, He is not on my list, this year. He was on my list either in 2009 or 2010.
It is all over Twitter World that Seve has passed away. But no confirmation yet, If so, he was 54 yrs old. And a sad day for golf. Brain Cancer.
Won 91 times around the world including 5 major titles. (2 Masters and 3 British Opens).
RIP Seve.
Here’s your lno award.
Apparently Justin Rose jumped the gun. “I’m not dead, yet!”
The old mixed feelings … want the points, want the man to get better … sigh.
As if you’re actually gonna meet him and pal around with him if he recovers. Take the points.
Oh, I’ll take the points!
I am still new enough at this that I “try” to not be too ecstatic when someone on my list is at death’s door (or through it). Although I have been refreshing my google search of “Seve Ballesteros death” every 5 minutes (until I got that hit). And I was pretty happy when Wikipedia showed a date of death (today). But it had no cite and has since been removed. So I guess he is off in ZsaZsa land for now.
Marian Mercer, who played hostess Nancy Beebe in the restaurant-set sitcom It’s a Living, has died at the age of 75. Mercer won a Tony Award for her performance in the 1969 musical Promises, Promises.
Seve related <hijack> was the Ryder Cup expanded to include Continental players explicitly to get Seve on the team?
Seve Ballesteros’ website reports he died early this morning at age 54.
Rip Seve but 46 DP points for me!

Jack Nicklaus first recommended expansion of GB&I Ryder cup team to Europe in the mid 70s just prior to Seve’s breakthrough tournament in the 1976 British Open. To get it more competitive.
Oddly, for someone who is probably known as the most important figure ever in Ryder Cup, Seve actually boycotted the matches in 1981 over appearance money.
RIP Seve, you will be missed. :sniff:
I had Seve too–my first points in about five years, I think.
Seve will be missed greatly. My former pastor in Oxford knew him well, when he was chaplain to the European PGA tour. He told me about how Seve encouraged him to swim to ease his back problems, and how Seve was one of the kindest and most generous man on the tour.

I had Seve on my list last year (I think - maybe two years ago) but took him off because all reports were that he was doing much better. Sad to hear that he’s gone. (And not just because I didn’t get any points for him this year.

After Brigitte, what’s to live for?
