The Census - American Community Survey

It was definitely from the Census People. The URL for filling it out was very similar to Beck’s.

I’m confident there are at least a couple prior threads on this. I am not a huge fan. But I’m pretty sure when I looked into it, no one had ever been prosecuted for failing to cooperate.

Yeah, there were a few threads about this a long time ago, before the board switched formats. They probably can’t be found easily.

But the information is intrusive and I doubt if any information is truly secure these days. We are told over and over to protect our personal information, and almost every day we hear about a new data breach. So read the form and ask yourself if you want to participate.

Just print that form out, and as an exercise, answer all the questions, about half way through you are going to say “oh hell no”.

The question were definitely about house size, people who live here. etc.
Nothing about $$ in the bank.

.

I got a notice today about completing this. I did it, because of the “Under penalty of law” statement, but found it very, very intrusive. Plus I have far less faith in the way the government will use the data.

It started with the confirmation of who lived here. It then wanted race and nationality info. Including a breakdown of which countries are in your ethnic makeup. Then it wanted to know how much money I had coming in, from what income streams, had I received any public funds (welfare, housing help, etc), how much I paid in homeowner’s insurance, property taxes, water bill. If I owned my home outright, how much is it currently worth. Presumably, if I had a mortgage, it would’ve asked how much I pay for that. In the last year, did I work even 1 hour of paid time. (I’m retired)

All in all, I found it very intrusive, and although I have no reason to fear the government, I simply don’t trust them to have this information.

Oh. I forgot about this. After I did the short questionnaire online. I got a email saying I would get a longer form via snail-mail.

It never came.

My online form was 4 or 5 questions. They were not intrusive.

Maybe it has to do with redistricting or that bullshit? I don’t know.

@StGermain got the super long form (my words, not the official term). Census Bureau collects the economic and demographic data used by the rest of the federal government. Up to this year that data was only used to produce reports. Nowadays I share others’ concerns about privacy, and abuse of the data.
