The Change From George To Elizabeth On British Currency

Actually, currency from Gibraltar, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man is not legal tender in the UK. It’s pretty common in circulation, especially Channel Island coins, but shops and banks do not have to accept it.

I’ve got some old coins in a little tin. The old 50p seems absurdly over-sized nowadays, but I suppose on original issue it was replacing the 10-shilling note, and worth a fair bit more than nowadays.

I got a Falkland Islands pound coin in my change a few years ago, which was nice.

Northern Irish notes do pop up here occasionally. It’s interesting that some of them have the name of a Danish Bank on them…
