On a side note, anyone remember when…

1. The McDonalds menu had both a Quarter Pounder, AND a Quarter Pounder Cheese?
2. McDonalds used styrofoam containers?

You know what? What a good idea for a thread. “Things I remember about McDonalds.” Look for it soon at a thread near you!

The ad for the Living Playtex bra, where the woman is so happy with it, she starts to unzip (or unbutton) her top, and someone cat whistles at her so she doesn’t do it. It was very sexy in it’s time.

I vaguely recall an ad for some brand of television, from sometime in the late 70s or early 80s. The brand being advertised was, I believe, an “American” brand. I put “American” in quotes because these days, most corporations are so multinational that it is really almost beside the point to say which are from which country.

Anyway, what I remember is that most of the commercial consisted of some guy talking about how good the TV brand being advertised was. Then right at the end, a Japanese guy would enter the picture and the first guy would say something like “Yes, it (brand being advertised) is even better than Sony!” The Japanese guy would then start cursing in Japanese or something.

Does anyone else remember this, and what was the brand that was actually being advertised? I want to say that it might have been RCA, but I am not really sure.

It was called the “McDLT.”

Not only do I remember the ad(s) you’re talking about, I remember Jack-in-the-Box commercials from around the same time **attacking** the McDLT: “And we keep the cold side cold by putting it under a heating unit.”

The most memorable of those Reese’s peanut butter cup commercials was the one with the opera singers changing the words to _The Barber of Seville_:

HE: “La, la la la la la la la la la, peanut butter!”

SHE: “ **CHOC** olate!”

Look for the Union label
When you are buying
A coat, dress or blouse

Remember somewhere our Union’s sewing
Our wages growing
To feed the kids and run the house

We work hard, but who’s complaining
Thanks to the IGU we’re paying our way
So always look for the Union label
It says we care enough to make it in the USA!

OK, I gotta know - does ANYONE remember the “Alphagetti Gobbler”?? Anyone? As I recall, it aired about 20 years ago in Canada (not sure if other places have Alphagetti, you see):

Kids would come screaming into the kitchen to scarf down a delicious bowl of Alphagetti, only to be greeted by an enourmous, foam, yellow lobster kinda creature with weird dreads and letters of the alphabet at the end of his dreads. Instead of vomitting with fear at a Stephen King style creature, the kids would be delightedly shout “Hey! you’re the Alphagetti Gobbler!” He’d respond with a coy “Who? Me?” and start giggling this maniacal laugh. Creeepy! Then the announcer would trumpet the delights of this canned pasta and sauce product, and the final shot would be of this repellant creature hoarding all of the bowls of alphagetti, quivering and chanting “Goblagetti! Goblagetti!” over and over.
Oh, how I loved it.

Please tell me I’m not crazy. Anyone?
