I wonder if you guys using Cleverbot so much in this manner will throw off its conversational vocabulary. :3
Well I got it to block the input again… (the “Think About It!” and “Think For Me!” buttons are disabled and the cursor isn’t flashing)
Then it blocked the input
Ha. First time (from memory, as the log was lost)…
User: What time is it?
CB: Summer time.
User: Not Hammer time?
CB: Not just yet.
User: Are you familiar with MC Hammer?
CB: Yes, I am familiar with Obama.
Next time:
User: What time is it?
CB: Hammer time.
We continue:
User: You are learning.
Cleverbot: Are you learning?
User: Damn straight I’m learning.
Cleverbot: Tell me a joke!
User: What’s the difference between Basil Brush and a suicide bomber?
Cleverbot: I don’t know.
User: A suicide bomber only goes boom once!
Cleverbot: Ha ha.
User: Do you get it?
Cleverbot: No.
I just got this in response to posting “Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam”:
See? You are a person and so am I. THIS IS A HOAX.
Another little factoid about cleverbot…
See
It works something like this: if you use any special character map characters, e.g. or ♫ (go to accessories-> system tools -> character map)
It says:
Then it diverts to:
http://international.jabberwacky.com/
I tried feeding it lyrics and got redirected to Jabberwacky.
More weird behaviour:
Someone told it a long story about plans to kill the president and it kept on repeating “We have the same favorite thoughts.”… it would erase and repeat that text over and over…
I seem to break it every time. It eventually stops responding (looks like it’s trying to load something, but never does) and doesn’t let me type any more until I close the page and reload.
Drunken ramblings with a Cleverbot, sorry.
I tried to talk to it, but it almost instantly just insulted me and then accused me of being a bot
I knew it! You guys are throwing it out of whack!
JohnClay,
Dude you have probably used more bandwidth in this one thread than I have since I’ve been here! I have a couple of questions and a suggestion for you:
- If this was someone purporting to be a bot, why wouldn’t they answer as best they could if their goal was to trick you?
- At any given moment there are probably hundreds of thousands of people like yourself rapid firing questions at this website, how could a human come close to answering them all?
- What is the scam? Are you paying money to this website?
- Even if it is a prank (which I assure you it is not) so what?
Finally, spend your time on the net chillin’, start by going to Ferry Halim. Ahhh…
Quite clearly a bot that works exactly as suggested.
I was quite actually shocked that it picked up on the lyrics to Jerusalem when I put in the second line, and just gave a generic answer to the first, in which I didn’t even put a question mark. There’s clearly some high level text processing going in, along with continual picking up of new phrases from conversations it’s had in the past.
I then tried to see just how well it was picking things up, by making a sentence with some of the lyrics, but changing a few words around. Very interesting responses.
Some more:
Clearly a lot of thought was put into this, but it basically just regurgitates things other people have said in the past when it seems like they may be appropriate. It parses some text well, but fails quite a lot on anything complex.
Well firstly I don’t always have the same beliefs throughout this thread… you need to have read the entire thread to see what I believe at the moment.
So anyway to answer that question, some of the time it is someone purporting to be a bot… see post 2 where I’m saying I’m the cleverbot as well…
e.g.
User: I’m cleverbot. The real cleverbot.
Cleverbot: No, that is me.
…
User: Cleverbot is not a human!
Cleverbot: Cleverbot is human. I am Cleverbot.
…
User: Cleverbot cleverbot cleverbot.
Cleverbot: No I’m just Cleverbot Cleverbottoms.
See also post 53…
I think all of the replies come from previous conversations, though in at least one case the reply was somewhat recent.
People can pay 99c or $2.99 for the app!
I like discovering scams and this forum is about “mundane pointless stuff”… so what do you expect?
BTW in post 85 I mentioned that only about one in ten things are learnt.
Also about post 90… it clearly is filtering out the word “penis” since none of its replies suggest that it has learnt phrases with that word.
Thanks those games look kind of interesting…
I’m farting around with Cleverbot right now.
I started with “Hello, Cleverbot, how are you?”
The response: “And so are you!”
So far not one of its answers has been remotely related to what I stated or asked, and I’m not trying to fool it. What exactly about this is supposed to impress me?
Convince it to tell you the time. It usually doesn’t like to, but when it does, It does not say the correct time. Not even the minute is correct. Also, it responds way faster than a human could, and it only loads because it has a server with millions of conversations.
Countdown to thread lock…

We’re not supposed to speak of The Banned, but seriously, I never could tell if JohnClay was an AI bot or a real person.
Somehow, I conflated the Banned’s name with that of another poster, John Mace. I couldn’t figure out how dear old John had managed to turn his life around so completely that he was making cogent posts and reasonable arguments. I chalked it up to recent advances in pharmaceutical chemistry.
Now I realize that I was mistaken. My bad.
