Because ā€œhouse loadsā€ utilize only a few percent of the plants output. Nuclear plants (and power plants in general) are not designed to operate very low power output. Since this makes operation unstable, the plant is procedurally required to shut down if a certain minimum load cannot be maintained. ---

**jackelope** We have the slowness of the boards to thank for itā€™s popularity. I couldnā€™t stress enough how this place has made _most_ of us use Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V a hell of a lot more! Even outside the SDMB. I for one live by those key combinations while on the comp. And luckilly I ctrl-cā€™d that paragraph, as I managed to delete it by accident. ---

Ah! Isnā€™t copying and pasting wonderful? Instead of having to waste all that time typing out something long, all you have to do is highlight, hit ctrl-c, position the cursor, and then ctrl-v it.
