I’m happy for me too. 🙂 Apparently the dad is balking about doing his part to chip in. He thinks the son has a perfectly fine instrument already. (I don’t know what it is, so I can’t say.) Red Hot Hottie is a bit miffed at him for that. If it were up to me, I’d help out myself, but that would be wrong on so many levels. ---

**tdn** , Thanks for this thread. You (along with my friends and their kids) have inspired me. I admit that the possibility of meeting a woman whose children have things in common with me hadn’t occurred to me; I imagined meeting a woman with children and that the children would be resentful or in completely-separate worlds. But it makes sense; if interests similar to mine are common in her household, _of course_ there’s a greater chance we’d get along. So now I just gotta find a woman whose family interests include solar-powered houses, or drawing, or electronic music, or… ---

**tdn** , I bless you and Red Hot Hottie, with all due respect all around. Like you, I am in a new relationship. We have known OF each other forever, but got to know each other 10+ years ago when I did day care and had his two beautiful daughters in my care. Now we are both divorced and have met again, and he said one of the things that attracted him to me, way back when, was my devotion to family. People, Red Hot Hottie sounds like a keeper. **Sunspace** , I’m so glad I could inspire you. The world becomes a much different place when you adopt optimism and open-mindedness as your defaults. A few weeks ago I bought a refrigerator magnet that says “Anything is possible.” It sounds like silly and stupid new age affirmation bullshit, but it’s kept my head in the right space for success. A year ago the very idea of someone like Red Hot Hottie being in my life was totally inconceivable. Yesterday she asked her son who he wants to show up at his birthday party. The first person he mentioned was me. How heart-melting is that? **Rascal’s Mom** , I wish you the very best with your new guy. He sounds fantastic, and I think he’s very lucky to have you in his life. ---

I will give respect, and will tolerate nothing else towards me. I’ll be fun and a friend to him, but he already has a father. I will not be used as a tool of manipulation. I think that that’s the best I can do. Same goes for the daughter. ---
