I’m always amused by the Bohemian Grove thing, just because it seems designed to drive conspiracy theorists nuts. A bunch of the worlds most powerful people\* meet in the woods of CA to worship at the idol of a bizarre owl God. Really, our modern times have nothing to teach the turn-of-the-century founders of this tradition about the art of trolling. \*(well really, a couple powerful people from the US with a bunch of pop-stars and actors, but that sounds less impressive) ---

But the words “worship,” “idol,” and “God” are the interpretations of other people, people like Alex Jones and David Icke (and this William Schnoebelen nutcase that I just learned of), right? If you just look at it as a big statue, perhaps symbolizing wisdom, and the attendees have this silly ceremony where they can temporarily throw away their cares, that sounds a lot less menacing. If you’re trying to stir up the passions of the marginally crazy fringe out there, then using words like worship, idol, and god are how you’d do it. ---

Rather than the “Satanic” associations that raving idiots such as Jones and Icke assign to it, it seems rather more likely that it is in the tradition of the [Feast of Fools](http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feast_of_Fools), a quite benign celebration, even if it was created by Christian clergy. ---

This sounds like a subtle accusation that I was making a “sly” attempt to label the OP as a troll. I was in fact joking about it being time to stop feeding an enormous frigging owl. I have never used the phrase “Don’t feed the troll” or anything resembling it at any time on the Dope. Should anyone care to do so in this thread (which would be a shame, given the modest amusement value the OP has given us), one wonders whether Sanctions would be overturned by a Higher Dope Court seeing that the thread is currently in the Pit. Not that I give a 12-foot rat’s ass. ---
