The Daily Feud: Planes, Trains and Automobiles by El_Kabong [Closed]

Yay! Still hangin’ in the bottom twenty-five!

When you get in the Top Ten, you’ve finally been assimilated into the Straight Dope Message Borg!

I think this was my worst finish ever! :smack:

I’ve made it into the Top Ten a few times, and I did again. Guess I’ve been assimilated. Don’t know if that’s good or bad, but thanks to Dolores and El_Kabong for the game!

Yeah! 6th in my own Feud! I gotta submit more of these things.

Thanks again, Dolores, for all your hard work, and to everyone for playing.

Now that the results are up, there were a few surprises (for me at least):

  1. For sheer numbers, the Boeing 737 should be top of the list, but clearly the 747 resonates more with people. Also, it’s a bit surprising that no Airbus models at all showed up, as 319s and 320s are fairly popular planes.

  2. 15 votes for Lufthansa? That’s some mighty powerful brand recognition there.

  3. Nobody, including me, voted for The Train? That’s one of my all-time favorite movies.

  4. That bit about “other than the US” was not to suggest that train travel is popular there (IIRC, only about 1% of all intercity trips in the US are made by train), but just to exclude the US from the answers, to make it (one hopes) a bit more interesting.

  5. See, railroads? You start naming your enterprises with cryptic monikers like CSX, or unwieldy ones like Burlington Northern Santa Fe, and no one remembers who the hell you are.

  6. Bit of a ‘conch’ there, along with #1.

  7. I was curious how that one was going to turn out. I guess it’s not surprising that ‘tank’ got a bunch of votes. Everybody would like a crack at driving a tank someday, right?

  8. I would have bet money that Toyotas were gonna come up more generic than Hondas, but the people have spoken, and I was wrong.

Joint 6th, thank you very much

Yeah! Half 6th in my own Feud!

The 747 offers the new conch class service.

My highest score ever, woot!

Thanks for a fun (and accessible!) topic El_Kabong and many thanks to Dolores for doing this for us all.

Yes. But only on Pan-Am flights.

Not Air Jamaica?

I chose Pan-Am for two reasons. One it’s airline that Rickenbacker was involved in. And even though no one else mentioned him as an aviator he has been on my mind. The other reason is that Pan-Am is out of business, making that Conch Class seating a little difficult to book.

Air Jamaica flights having Conch Class seating just would be too possible.

Very fun feud!

#4! My best feud score ever!

Either you guys are starting to think like me, or I’m starting to think like you.

Yet again I seem to be in the bottom ten… what is it with people!

I really need to start my world domination plan ahead of time…

It would also be appropriate for Pan Am, which was founded as a seaplane service from Key West (a.k.a. the Conch Republic).
