They discontinued the original taurus (the 80’s/90’s version) in 2006, then they rebadged the Ford Five Hundred as the Taurus a year later. ---

Actually, wasn’t the Five Hundred the rebranded Taurus? and when it didn’t sell under that name they changed it back? That’s the impression I got from the models I test drove. ---

The two co-existed for a while. But then Ford turned the Taurus into a fleet vehicle for a spell, then completely discontinued it, and finally re-tooled the Five-Hundred and renamed it the Taurus.
