Lumpy, that’s awful, I’m so sorry for your loss. My minirant seems particularly ridiculous in comparison, but nevertheless, I’m not American but I do follow the high level US news as the last remaining superpower. It’s so disappointing when people resort to childish names for Trump and or Republicans. I was very condescendingly superior about the whole Obummer and Moochelle stuff and it’s very disheartening to realise that actually there are literal tantrum throwing children on both sides of the divide. ---

That doesn’t surprise me at all. I’ve been on this board long enough to know that the left is nowhere near as enlightened and tolerant as it likes to tell everyone it is. Here’s a hint. If you have to tell everyone how enlightened and tolerant you are, you aren’t. I’m just hoping that all the special snowflakes will simmer down and sulk for the next four years instead of carrying on with the constant whining. Otherwise I’ll have to petition the mods to start a Trump sub-forum off of The Pit. Maybe call it “Waaahhhh!” ---

The front of the sanctuary at church this morning was way too hot. It was probably at least partly the fault of the lights (I was far enough front to be lit by the spotlights, which do create heat). But I’m not entirely convinced. Also, it was freezing or below outside, so it shouldn’t have been so hot inside. (Yeah, yeah, I know. Outdoor temps don’t directly affect the thermostat inside). Also: Really? No one from the bell choirs could be bothered to stick around and help move tables afterward? Technically, there were two bell choir people, one director, and one father moving tables. Since moving one table requires two people, and there were other obstacles in the way (most of them human), and six tables . . .it took longer than it should have, and I had to help move half the tables myself. Under the circumstances, I’m not really mad at anyone in particular who ran away when the bells finished playing, but I’m still kinda miffed at the collective group. ---

My in-laws came to town on Saturday. They show up and immediately want my 3 year old to open a present. OK, it might be nice to take off your coats, but whatever. Turns out it’s a Tiny Tikes Manger set with a book about the birth of Jesus. I’m an atheist. They know that I’m an atheist and how I feel about these things. But they are fundamentalists and they’re RIGHT. So that’s nice. My wife takes me aside and asks me to put up with it for the 36 hours they’re in town. We never decorate the exterior of our house, so they also brought us one of those laser light emitters that puts red and green dots all over your house. I read the warnings. Yes it’s actually two lasers. No, you shouldn’t look at the emitter. Yes you aim it at your house. You know, the house that has a lot of windows. The house that has a curious 3 year old boy. Again, my wife asked me to put up with it for 36 hours. So I spent the last 2 evenings shielding my eyes every time I walked past a window and keeping my boy away from the front of the house. Now they’re gone and this shit is going in the trash. ---
