I think the Peter Haining book on ol’ Sweeny is complete fiction. And yeah, I have it & enjoy it thoroughly. And I think any criminologists who do verify it & then only quote it as their source are in on the joke.

I agree. I tried to get it when it was on LD–had it on order from a place that _claimed_ to have it–but it never materialized. Why it hasn’t been released on DVD is a mystery to me. I’d think there would be a demand, particularly if they could add a commentary track as they did with the LD/DVD release of **Sunday in the Park with George**.

Also, has anyone heard or read about Steven Spielberg wanting to do a film version of **Sweeney Todd**? I saw a brief mention of this horrifying (to me, anyway) bit of news in a story about the recent rush to produce film musicals in the wake of **Chicago** ’s box office success. I’d like to see _someone_ do it, but Spielberg? I’m ambivalent about this news.
