**Eve** , I’m especially interested in your opinion, what with your background in the fashion magazine business. I’m reading that Meryl Streep does a good job as a fashion magazine maven, and I like Meryl Streep when she does comedy. Anyone seen it yet? ---

I’m not Eve, but I want to see it. Anne Hathaway, the best-looking actress in human history, is finally in a movie I’d consider watching. ---

I just came back from it. I don’t want to spoil it, but it felt very two-dimensional. Perhaps that was the point, but it didn’t do it for me. Stanley Tucci was brilliant as always, though. ---

I am a Fashion-Mag refugee now, and I kinda miss the old size-zero harridans and their pet Gwyneths. Those scenes of Patsy at work in _Ab Fab_? They weren’t even _exaggerating_. From what I’ve read in advance of this film, I am hoping for a _The Best of Everything_ kind of glossy soap, but everyone agrees that the filmmakers do _not_ know the fashion-mag world, and the clothes, by Patricia “Sex Clown” Field, are way off-target. And one never, _never_ raids the samples closet. _Ever_. Still, Meryl looks great, and I am hoping it’s better than the book (word is that it is). ---

Wow, snipes at the great **Brokeback Mountain** and the sweet and talented Gwynneth Paltrow by the 6th post. \*\*\*\*\*\*\* people in this thread, just like in the movie. Which was pretty good, by the way. My husband and I saw it and **Wordplay** today, and enjoyed both of them. I know (or care) far less about fashion than Anne Hathaway’s character in the beginning of the movie, so I can’t comment on how accurate it is (and who gives a shit, anyway?) but we found it fun and funny. Meryl Streep is a hoot as the ice queen bitch of the universe, and yet she’s oddly likable; Anne Hathaway is one of the most beautiful women on the planet (oh those eyes!), stayed sweet and sincere for most of the movie, and stays oddly likable even when she turns toward the dark side for a bit there; Hathaway’s boyfriend is the next generation Mark Ruffalo (sweet and understanding, but has his limits); Stanley Tucci is fantastic as always; the clothes were mostly beautiful (fashion being fashion, some of it was butt ugly); and it’s just always interesting to enter a world that’s as alien to us as, well, **Alien** and see a bit of what goes on there. Sure, it’s mostly bullshit (a size 6 woman is called “fat”) but it was still interesting, we had a good time, and we’re glad we went. However, the doc **Wordplay** was by far the better of the two movies, and it was probably made for the cost of one of the pairs of shoes in **The Devil Wears Prada**. Movies about intelligent people are always more fascinating to me than fun movies about shallow but good-looking people. It made for an interesting double-feature. ---

Just got back from it . . . blecch. Love Streep, but it’s a very leaden morality tale of “be true to yourself” and with very few laughs. This is a “rent the DVD” in six monthsflick. ---

I will see _The Devil Wears Prada_ because Meryl Streep is in it and she can do no wrong. I have a strong desire to bear her children. Or just see whatever film she happens to be in at the moment, whichever is more practical. I am even more interested in it now that **Equipoise** has weighed in with a favourable review, because I don’t recall ever reading an opinion of hers w/r/t film that I didn’t share. It’s spooky. ---

I freelanced for a lot of the fashion mags throughout the '90s (as a writer) and worked at one (as copy chief) for eight years (I’d rather not say which one–but it’s not one of the biggies). I used to call the eager little Eve Harringtons, as played by Anne Hathaway, the “Gwynnies,” as they were all gorgeous, perky little size twos with perfect bone structure. I remember the time I told them about tapeworms, and they got all excited and ran out for sushi. Thing is, as long _as you did not take it seriously_, it was a lot of fun: fashion as a competitive sport. And I was damn good at it. One of the Gwynnies showed me a six-inch cross studded with multicolored gemstones they were planning to feature in the next issue and I, in my best Joan Crawford tones, asked, “Are they planning to crucify Liza Minnelli?” Oh, one time all the samples for the new issue were laid out on the floor and we all had to hopscotch around them. I nearly stepped on a white silk blouse, to everyone’s horror, so I snapped, “Don’t worry, dear, footprints are the new black.” As long as you have the right attitude (“I’m right and you’re wrong”), you’ll be fine. ---

Odd that people didn’t think it was that funny. My husband and I both laughed throughout, and he’s even less interested in fashion than I am. I at least know who these designers are…I watch the Oscars. Maybe we were just in a good mood and were easy pickings. ---

What an awesome and eclectic actress! - enjoyable…I had a good time even though I’ve never heard an episode of the real radio show. ---

I took my size twelve self into the ladies’ room and had a nice little cry. ---

She’s one of the finest actresses ever, she’s funny and very down-to-earth, loves to make fun of herself and wave off any hero worship. She’s dedicated to her family. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with her. WTFIYP? ---
