My Rep affiliations are well-known, but I find nothing in this thread that’s not outright hilarious, especially the retarded baby one. I didn’t like derision based on gender when some Obama supporters (of which I am and was one then) did it to Clinton earlier this year, and I don’t really like it now about Palin. Don’t get me wrong. I think she was a ludicrous choice for the VP slot, especially of a 72-year-old presidential candidate with a history of cancer. I don’t like her one bit, and I despise her politics. But I’m just not comfortable with jokes based on her gender, or based on her personal characteristics as filtered through her gender. They’re not only kind of reprehensible, they weaken the arguments of Democrats against her because they open us up to legitimate charges of sexism. It’s a dirty double-cross from the party that has spent the last 40 years or so fighting against the women’s movement’s goals (and a candidate that’s spent the last 26 years in Washington doing so), but it’s there and we have to fight around it. ---

No offense, **jayjay** , but I wasn’t even trying to make a high-minded point. I was just funnin’ around. And I thought **NurseCarmen** ’s and **Mosier** ’s riffing on the “Lassie Eats Her Young” stuff was pretty funny. I think it was Jon Stewart or Steven Colbert or somebody like that who was telling jokes about Obama, and was greeted with stony silence rather than laughs. And said, and I agree, “It’s OK to laugh at him.” Same for Palin. If we can’t take nasty, mean-spirited cheap shots at our politicians, the terrorists have won. Regards, Shodan ---

I had a dream about Obama. He was in an arena, and he had to fight a bull, same as you. But he was buried up to his neck in the sand. The bull came rushing at him, but Obama managed to dig away with his chin into the sand, and got his head down low enough to dodge the horns. Then, as the bull passed over him, he lunged up and bit the bull in the scrotum. And the master of the games shook his finger at Obama from the sidelines. “Now, now - fight fair!” Regards, Shodan ---

We are not politicians representing people, we are making the kind of jokes about Palin that she invited us to make. Note that this isn’t a dump on women thread. Just because a woman is being dumped on, doesn’t mean that she is being dumped on for being a woman. A woman who happens to be a nasty bitch doesn’t get a free pass for being a nasty bitch because she is a woman, she gets called on being a nasty bitch because she’s a nasty bitch, which is a voluntary quality. If she were a man she would get called on being a relentlessly obnoxious asshole loser. She doesn’t get a pass. In her acceptance speech she dumped on every group she thought of that was so weak it could not fight back if showing bigotry would get her points with her audience. She only calls Obama Sambo in private. She’s got a national podium and arugula eaters don’t. Well I sometimes drink Chardonnay, this is my pit and I’m dishin’ the insults here. If she wants to march her self down here and defend herself, she’s welcome to it, but you fighting for her is pathetic. You don’t owe her any help and she doesn’t deserve your sympathy. ---
