# The DirecTV marionette commercials are creeping me out

OK, it’s cute. Guy’s wife is a marionette. He and his friend have to backpedal when they talk about wires being ‘ugly’. But they have a kid. So the guy’s been boffing a doll. The idea skeeves me out.

I also find them kind of creepy. There’s been some discussion about them in the “Latest stupid commercials” thread.

Marionettes are second only to clowns in creeping me right the hell out. So, yeah, I have to fight off an urge to run from the room when those things are on.

Oh, come on! _Thunderbirds_ was great! But then, nobody ever boffed Lady Penelope.
The first commercial was OK. I was like, ‘Heh. They guy’s wife is a marionette.’ The second one, where we meet the son, I thought ‘Wait a minute. They have a kid. That means _they done it!_\* Ew!’ And the latest one, where she wants to be told how pretty she is, where she rips off her robe (which somehow gets through the strings), where she tries to turn her husband on… Well, I didn’t need to see that.
I’m not a prude. Really! I _like_ sick and twisted and creepy. There’s just something about these commercials that I find disturbing. Now if it turns out that this marionette family is all in the guy’s head and they really don’t talk and move around without his assistance (‘Norman!’) and he’s really a sexual predator and a serial killer, that would be cool. I _dare_ DirecTV to do that!

Yeah, these commercials have gone from “OK… that’s an odd idea” to “Seriously? It was \*barely \*funny the first time” and now I’m just thinking “Oh, God! Where’s the brain soap?!”

Yeah, those commercials creep me out too. They are going down in history with “badly conceived ad campaigns.” Like Burger King’s “Herb,” or Calvin Klein’s pedophilia ads, or that liqueur ad with the woman saying “Hit me with a club.” Or when Quiznos implied that the employee was having sex with the oven.
Yeeeesh.
